what is creative something? it is the blog for creative ideas and inspiration. the owner of this blog is Tanner Christensen. creative something has been a powerful source for creative ideas, inspiration, and motivation. created as an exploration of creativity by Tanner, the blog has since become a top ranked blog for all things related to creativity and creative thinking. Tanner Christensen, is an entrepreneur, creativity expert, and marketing director from Salt Lake City, Utah. he has spent the past two decades helping business and individuals create powerful content online.

About the Blog is simple blog that content of many creative inspiration and ideas with more showing the text than the picture some of the title are: teaching creativity and what it really means, seeking inspiration in a wrong place, how flipping elements, and of a flipped idea results in new idea, what makes genius, starting from zero to get ideas, why it’s hard to identify creativity, ways to discover the impossibly possible, and many more. all the post from Tanner is about creativity and he didn’t make limitation about creativity, creativity could be used in many different kind of situation and condition, and could be practice if you want to explore about creativity itself. one post that attracts me is about  the relationship between creativity and intelligence.

“intelligence is classically defined as the ability to acquire and utilize knowledge. in testing circumstance, an Intelligent Quotient (IQ) is gauged by one’s ability to utilize information gained historically. creativity is the ability to come up with new ideas through a mental process of connecting existing concept.”

Intelligence certainly plays a part in creative thinking, but not how you might expect. Your IQ is generally gauged by an ability to interpret information and provide solutions, no matter the circumstance. In mathematics and basic sciences IQ is immensely important, because it demonstrates your ability to memorize concepts and repeat their results on similar problems. If I tell you that two plus two equals four, you should (ideally) be able to intelligently conclude that four plus four equals twice the original answer. If you’re great at acquiring knowledge (say, through reading or lectures or watching videos on YouTube) and you have the ability to put that knowledge to use effectively, but lack the ability to efficiently filter through solutions, you may come up with effective ideas, but it’s going to take you a long time. As opposed to those with high intelligence levels who can filter through ideas quickly.

Of course – and this is the real kicker – intelligence only gets you so far when it comes to creativity.

To be creative is to pull existing knowledge into a new situation and quickly sort through potential outcomes. Of course: existing knowledge is something that anyone above a certain threshold on the IQ scale can amass. That intelligence number, it seems, is right around 100 (right in the middle of the average range for IQ test-takers in the United States). Which means that if you’re reading this, you have the creative potential of anyone with an IQ of 100 or above.

being able to come up with creative ideas isn’t something you need an overly-high IQ to accomplish”

based on the Tanner’s blog, there are many different ways to define creativity that showed in different ways with many different benefits to its person but still give the same meaning and key points.  and for me, to define creativity itself I got three words to describe creativity: utility – beauty – novelty 🙂

Enhance Creativity in School Children

Being creative is about finding innovative ways to solve problems, generating new ideas and finding ways to make things better to name a few. Research has shown that enhancing student creativity may offer benefits academically, developmentally and emotionally. The traditional education model has been criticized as hampering this type of thought. However, these characteristics will serve students well from their formative years all the way through completing a digital arts program. If you are a teacher, there are lots of activities you can do and strategies you can adopt to get the creative juices flowing

Word Games

Word games are a great way to encourage creative thinking because it allows children to make connections and establish relationships between different words

Visual thinking Games

Games that employ the use of visual thinking are great because they encourage visualization and the use of imagination—two important aspects of thinking creatively. Show the children an abstract image and ask them to tell you what they see, what the image looks like to them

Drawing Games

Certain types of drawing games can help students build on existing concepts, knowledge and ideas, another key aspect of creativity.

dot to dot

i have another games that could enhance creativity for children, it isn’t noted from the blog i reviewed ( . that is a video games. the information that i got, when researchers asked 491 10-year-olds in Michigan to test their creative thinking skills by commenting on a drawing and were then asked about their usage of various forms of information technology. The level of creativity was determined by how much a student expanded on a drawing or idea presented to them. According to the study, there was a correlation between video game usage and creativity across all races and gender.

video games

but i think too much video game might give the negative effect to the children. hehe

In this blog, I’m gonna review about the creative, when first I open this website, I go to ‘about’ options to know what is actually this blog about. Then I get: creative generalist is an outpost for curious divergent thinkers who appreciate new ideas from a wide mix of sources. Completely random and updated regurarly, inspiration drawn from – and relevant to the largest creative world. Founded in 2002 by Steve Hardy, a creative generalist in Montreal.

Then I a little bit curious about what does the word of ‘generalist’ mean, then I search into another source from Generalist is actually a person whose knowledge, aptitudes, and skills are applies to a field as a whole or to variety to different fields (opposed to specialist).  But in this website, we will be introduced and get information about creative generalist.

What you can do and see on this site?

  1. Read  a daily ephemeral collection of news, opinion, and inspirations from around the World Wide Web, curated by the @generalists list tweets
  2. Society of creative generalist: an outpost from curious divergent thinkers who appreciate diversity broad thinking, widely inspired ideas, and addressing issues globally.
  3. The ecletic Curiosity interviews: a wide ranging Q-A series with some incredibly bright people with exciting stories to tell and wisdom to share.

The words that I get from specially generalist do:

  • wander & wonder – finding possibility
  • Synthesize & Summarizepresenting information
  • Link & Leapgenerating ideas
  • Mix & Matchconnecting people
  • Experience & Empathize – understanding worldview

The contents:

From this site I got new insight about generalist. From the overview, we can see that everything comes from the idea, but still many of us forget this essential thing. as stated, ‘Ideas are the product of divergent thinking, lateral steps and questions dealing with completely unrelated notions. Seldom pure, and often appearing out of nowhere, ideas come from a kaleidoscopic grab bag of other ideas—whether ancient, recent, calculated or silly’

Words that I get as my conclusion:

” Generalists are very good at introducing strangers to one another. Generalists are keen observers and natural matchmakers. They explore possibilities (in the broadest sense), connect the dots, distill complex information down to relevant summary, and remind us of context and even humanity. For these reasons and others, generalists are in increasingly high demand in today’s companies, non-profit organizations, universities, governments, and institutions.”

We must actively seek out fragments of possibility, information, ideas, expertise and worldview from their many scattered sources and try to put them together sensibly and productively. A generalist understanding of factors once believed too remote to consider is already an essential activity

One more interesting thing:

You can get inspiration from bookshelf option to see more about inspirational books from the around the world author.

that’s all from me. thank you 🙂

from those30 ideas that stated from small business owners nation-wide, I will not explain one by one. I pick four from above that interested for me as the best idea and trends in 2012.  And take a look of the pictures 🙂

  1. Gesture recognition technology

One way gesture recognition is being used is to help the physically impaired to interact with computers, such as interpreting sign language. The technology also has the potential to change the way users interact with computers by eliminating input devices such as joysticks, mice and keyboards and allowing the unencumbered body to give signals to the computer through gestures such as finger pointing (

gesture    2. Proximity-based social network

Proximity-based social networks will allow us to identify like-minded individuals who are near you. As you ride a bus or attend a seminar, our smart phone will identify individuals nearby, we should probably know. In apple and android now, this application has been launched as named ‘color’. The Ios user and android user could try this application.

    3. Social Media for Hiring

Social media and recruiting is top of mind for many recruiters and hr managers, and for good reason. Learn why some employers are blocking social media at work, while others are busy creating social media employee guidelines. Some are finding social media useful for employee engagement and employee management. Remember that social media can be a useful component in your recruiting and hiring, but only if used properly. In the same way, social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook can be useful tools for recruiting and hiring.

4. Chinese companies will become a force in global market

Firms in industry after industry will see the competitive landscape shift as Chinese companies become a force in global markets. These firms will first be seen in emerging markets in Asia, Latin America and Africa, but shortly thereafter will begin to compete in the developed-country markets of North America and Europe. A common characteristic of these new competitors from China is their ability to offer “almost-as-good products at a very attractive price point,” reflecting their fast-follower and fast-learner competencies

Overall the all the ideas trends actually has been introduced before 2012, only small group or certain country that knew and applied those kind of technology or trends. Especially in Indonesia, those 28 ideas and trends are not becoming “trend” significantly, only few. But now, 2012 has already pass, technology will continue to grow and developed. The business owners should more put their point to many kinds of trends that might help their business to grow, up to date, and sustained. Just wait and see what another cool trend in this year, 2013 🙂
